Production Hero On The Bay

May 4, 2017

Scratch any truly great radio producer and you'll find at least one set of iconic call letters. In the case of Ron Hummel, the legendary KFRC/San Francisco. Back in the 70s, he was busy imaging one of the biggest stations in CHR history through their highest ratings and a string of Billboard Station of The Year titles. Starting at the ripe old age of 16, he was fearless in his approach to imaging radio. Perhaps that's why he killed it on KFRC, while he was also producing specialty programs for RKO.

During the 80s and 90s he ran his own production house that specialized in creating artist profiles and countdown shows heard around the world on United Stations, ABC, Radio Today, RKO, Drake-Chanault, CBS and several Japanese networks.

Ron is mos def a fanboy when it comes to the music. He counts as his two most memorable events in his professional life an afternoon spent in London working wth Paul McCartney on a national radio special and spending several hours one December day in New York, interviewing John Lennon. That night, John Lennon was murdered. Ron subsequently produced a national radio show chronicling that fateful night.

Today, I have the absolute pleasure of working with Ron on iHeart 80s at 103-7 in San Francisco. You can hear a collection of some of our latest work HERE. I think you'll have as much fun listening as he obviously did making the magic.

Ron is also imaging iHeart 80s at 103-7 sister station, Adult/Contemporary KISQ, while constantly adding new microphones to his somewhat sizable collection. And here I thought I had more microphones than what I need with TWO!

Check out his digs!

LOVE your work Ron!
